Know Your Customer Process (KYC)
The Know Your Customer (KYC) process is a critical financial tool designed to understand clients, their activities, and manage risk factors. Learn about the stages of the KYC process, its requirements, and innovations that enhance security standards.
Know Your
Customer Process (KYC)
When conducting real estate transactions, you may wonder why we ask you to provide certain personal details or additional information. This is not an arbitrary process. It is the Know Your Customer (KYC) procedure, which we are required to carry out under the laws of the Republic of Lithuania.
This obligation arises from the Law on the Prevention of Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing (PMLTF) of the Republic of Lithuania. Compliance with this law is overseen by the Financial Crime Investigation Service (FCIS), and real estate activity is one of the sectors to which these requirements apply.
Why is this done?
Real estate transactions are often high in value, and therefore subject to higher transparency standards. The KYC process helps ensure that:
- transactions are lawful and transparent;
- fraud and unlawful activity are prevented;
- all parties to a transaction are properly identified;
- legal requirements are met.
Importantly – this is not related to any distrust of a specific client. It is a standard procedure applied to everyone, and it is a necessary part of how we operate.
What data may be requested?
In accordance with legal requirements, we may request:
- personal identity document details;
- contact information;
- information about the transaction;
- in certain cases – information about the source of funds;
- additional information where required by law.
In all cases, we aim to collect only the minimum data necessary.
How is your data protected?
The information you provide is processed in accordance with data protection requirements and used only for lawful purposes. Your data is not used for any other purposes and is not shared with third parties without a legal basis.
If you have any questions or concerns – you are always welcome to reach out. We will explain every step in a clear and straightforward manner.
